Lakeside Marine Services (“LMS”) was chosen by Sail & Ski of Austin and Sea Ray Boats to be the exclusive Marine Contractor for Aquapalooza 2010, held on Lake Travis in Austin, TX. - attended by an estimated 70,000 fans and some 7,000 vessels.
LMS was assigned the difficult task of designing and installing a floating boat rafting system which could accommodate several thousand boats. The biggest obstacle for LMS to overcome was the restriction placed by the Water Surface Regulatory Authorities at the Lower Colorado River Authority which only allowed a three (3) day window (prior to the event) for the placement of any materials onto the water surface of Lake Travis.
Utilizing an in-house GPS designed anchoring system, LMS was able to install the complete underwater system several weeks prior to the event. With the strategic placement of sub-surface buoys, LMS installed 150 surface buoys and tens of thousands of feet of floating yellow rafting line in 2 (very long) days.
As far as we know, this was the largest rafting system ever installed anywhere in the world. LMS also created a floating barrier area for what has been described as “The World’s Largest Swim-in Mosh Pit.”
In addition to the rafting grid and mosh pit, LMS designed, fabricated and installed the floating structure which extended the stage over 100’ from the shoreline. Incorporated in the design were platforms for lifeguards to monitor the mosh pit and a 20’ X 36’ video/sound platform. These structures were assembled using the “LakeLife Dock” line of dock frames which LMS has become known for.
